Summer Cruising

For those of us in the North Hemisphere, Summer is on. Time for weather adjustment and sunny habits. Non is quite so appealing as casually cruising on a balloon tire bike, preferably near a body of water, few hills, and plenty of sights.

Lawrence Wach in San Diego decided to restore a mid 1920's Mead Ranger. This top of the line machine was wood rim equipped.

1915 Model, built for speed.

So Lawrence decided to replace the semi-pneumatic rims and tires with Ghisallo Balloon 700 rims. I built them onto his New Departure hubs and a pair of Electra 40mm tires finish off this beauty.

Lawrence's bike, equipped for comfort.

It's amazing how close the Balloon rims come to the originals, which use expensive, rare replica tires. Now he can ride with a variety of balloon tires.

All you need is a straw hat and an ice cream cone!
